Exciting new studio recordings by Bryn Terfel, Giuliano Carmignola and Claudio Abbado
This month Bryn Terfel entered the famous AIR Studios in London to record his new album devoted to songs of the British Isles. The album will include favourites such as the Irish classics Danny Boy and My Lagan Love, the English traditional Scarborough Fair and, of course, songs in Bryn?s native tongue, Welsh. All the songs have been delightfully arranged by Chris Hazell for orchestra and various soloists, including violinist Sharon Corr (of the Irish folk-rock group The Corrs) and British soprano Kate Royal. Also joining the prestigious array is the choir London Voices and the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Barry Wordsworth. Bryns new album is scheduled for release in late autumn 2008.
In mid November, the complete cycle of Mozart?s Violin Concertos was recorded in Bologna by Giuliano Carmignola and Claudio Abbado, with Danusha Waskiewicz joining them on the viola in the Sinfonia concertante. This marks not only Carmignola?s first Mozart recording but also the first recording on period instruments by Abbado and his Orchestra Mozart. At the recording sessions Carmignola was on the top of his form, and all participants were in very good spirits, which resulted in a very harmonious working atmosphere and so promises a spectacular recording. The release is scheduled to coincide with Abbado¨s 75th birthday in June 2008.
